Dr. Salvador J. Diaz-Cano, born in Fuengirola (Malaga, Spain), finished his undergraduate medical training at University of Malaga School of Medicine in 1987 and completed the training in Anatomical Pathology at University Hospital “Virgen Macarena” - the University of Seville in 1993. Simultaneously, he completed a Ph.D. program on Oncopathology and defended his thesis on DNA ploidy and cell kinetic by topographic compartments in muscle-invasive transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder in 1993.
Read more...A Fellowship in Molecular and Anatomical Pathology was completed from 1994-1997 at New England Medical Center-Tufts University in Boston MA before joining GSF – Research Center in Munich as Pathologist lead on Experimental Pathology (animal models of disease) from 1997-1998. On July 1998 joined the Medical Staff at Barts and The London School of Medicine and NHS Trust as Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant as lead clinician for endocrine pathology, dermatopathology, and laser capture microdissection. From December 2002, he is a Professor of Anatomic and Molecular Pathology by open competitive examination. And since June 2004, acts as Consultant Physician Pathologist at the Department of Histopathology at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and King's Health Partners.
Dr. Diaz-Cano is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists. He is a member of various international organisations, such as: the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Society for Investigative Pathology, Association for Molecular Pathology, British Medical Association, European Society of Pathology, the International Academy of Pathology and the Pathological Society of Great Britain and Ireland. He is the author of 292 peer-reviewed articles and 46 conference papers.
Dr. Fatima Al-Hashimi graduated from the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences, in the Arabian Gulf University, through the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme for Medical Undergraduate Studies. Following the completion of her internship year in 2007, she joined the Department of Histopathology in Salmaniya Medical Complex, Bahrain, in 2008.
Read more...She then left to England in 2009, to pursue her residency training in Cellular Pathology at various tertiary hospitals in London; including, King’s College Hospital, The Royal Marsden, St. George’s Hospital Trust, University College London and Imperial College Healthcare Trust. After finishing her residency training in 2014; Dr. Al-Hashimi did a Research Fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital, in Maryland, Baltimore under the supervision of Dr. Jonathan Epstein. She is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists. Dr. Al-Hashimi re-joined Salmaniya Medical Complex in 2015; she has since been working as a specialist general histocytopathologist, with a special interest in uropathology and pancreatic tumours. She has been one of the pathologists training the local pathology trainees in the Arab Board Programme. Fatima is a member of the European Society of Pathology and The Pathological Society of Great Britain and Ireland. She welcomes research collaboration projects both regionally and internationally.
Dr Eman Aljufairi graduated from College of Medicine in Sultan Qaboos University in 2004. She did one year of rotating internship at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC)-Bahrain. She joined the department of pathology in Salmaniya Medical Complex, Bahrain as a histopathology resident in 2005.
Read more...She did her residency training in Anatomical and Cellular Pathology in Prince of Wales Hospital- Hong Kong and got her Fellowship of The Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA) in Anatomical Pathology in 2011. After that she spent one academic year in hematolymphoid pathology section of Stanford University as a visiting scholar. In 2012, Dr Eman returned to SMC and started working in the pathology department as a specialist in histopathology and cytopathology. She has been reporting all lymphoma cases in SMC since her return; building her interest and expertise in lymphoma diagnosis.
Dr Eman also works as a part-time tutor in the pathology department of Arabian Gulf University and a member of the Arab Division of International Academy of Pathology (AD-IAP) and the International Academy of Cytology (IAC).
